Administrative process

Visas

Foreign students who wish to take courses for more than three months must have a long-term visa delivered by the French representatives in their country (embassy or consulate).
EU and EEA nationals (EEA is EU + Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and students who originate from Andorra, Monaco, San Marino or Switzerland don’t need a visa.
A visa is requested to obtain a temporary residence permit valid for the total course duration.

Any course interruption gives way to suspension of all the student’s rights.
The admission transcript can enable the students to obtain a visa (ask the French services in your country for more information).
Without a long-term visa, students will be allowed to stay on French territory only for the period covered by the consular visa.

NB. This information is valid on the brochure’s publication date but may be submitted to changes.

Course cancellation

Registration to the university courses

The CUEF’s management is permitted to cancel a course or to change the number of course hours per week if there isn’t a sufficient number of students.   To register for a French university, students must apply at the university of their choice between December 10 and January 10 of the year previous to the first year in which the student will take courses at the university.

For more information, please contact the Cultural Services of the French embassy in your country.

Social

  •  Student card
    • Each student registered for a CUEF course gets a student card. With this card, students can use some low price university services like student restaurants, sports activities and preventive medicine and claim price reductions (in public transport and movie theatres for example)

    • French-German card of university works
      With this card, German students in France can benefit from university services with the same conditions as the French students. German students must obtain this card in Germany.

  • Registration for health insurance (Sécurité Sociale)
    During their stay in France, students must be insured. At the Cultural Services of the French embassy or consulate, they can get more information about what they should do with the French Sécurité Sociale. EU nationals have to complete a standardised European form.

    Students who are not EU nationals and who :
    • are registered for CUEF courses for at least three months;
    • take at least twelve course hours per week;
    • are younger than 29 and
    • have obtained the secondary school diploma,
      are obligated to be insured at the French Sécurité Sociale during the academic year. To register, when they arrive, these students must be able to show their diploma, their translated birth certificate and a sum of 200€. Students who don’t fall under these categories have to have a private insurance and have to prove this when they register at the CUEF.

  • Social   Insurance
    Students are not insured for the centre’s activities. Therefore, before their departure, they have to subscribe to an individual insurance covering all possible risks during their stay (illness, accidents, robbery etc.). The CUEF is not responsible in case of such an event.

  • Scholarships
    Scholarship applications must be filed with the Cultural Services of the French embassy in your country.
